About
Lee Xiong identifies as a Hmong American woman, a woman of color, and a social justice educator. Though these days Xiong can be found among academic scholars, her interest in education stems from her passion to further understand visual knowledge and ways of knowing. Xiong employs theoretical and experience-based ways of knowing to investigate the process of “becoming” in her art practice. Becoming refers to the practice and transformation of understanding oneself as an extension of transgenerational history, knowledge, and experiences. Xiong explores “becoming” by bridging memory and experiences with the processes of remembering, imagining, storytelling, and healing. Xiong hopes her work can serve as a historical marker for understanding transgenerational experiences and offer an opportunity for reflection, reconciliation, and learning.
